Apurwa Masook of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur (Batch: 2007-2015) calls himself an ambitious risk-taker and a thrill-seeker, who looks for adventure in my professional life and personal avocations. Travel, adventure sports, road trips are his passions. And, if you are getting ideas that he is 'travel wala banda', then pause! He also likes to cook, play video games, listen to music and play football. Masook is passionate about space technology and hence was born his aerospace company - SpaceFields. They build next-gen turnkey rocket propulsion systems for commercial spaceflight and national security.
His spacetech startup recently raised seed funding.of Rs 6.5 crore. SpaceFields has also filed six patents on various novel technologies developed in-house.
Masook’s journey as narrated by him:
When we quit our jobs about 30 months ago to start SpaceFields, it was like stepping into the abyss. It’s a lacerating journey to navigate the labyrinth of entrepreneurship. Reid Hoffman captures the essence beautifully in his quote “Starting a company is like jumping off a cliff and building a plane on the way down.” Except for us, it’s literally rocket science!
We came across many naysayers, but the unceasing faith from a few of our mentors kept us going. We recently closed our Seed funding round, with the backing and blessings of so many angel investors, both global and domestic. The fundraiser was not the most conventional, and putting it together was a protracted affair. It was a combination of remarkable conviction by our investors and close-knit network fostered over the past eight years.
Although the college does not capture all our investors, every picture (or the lack thereof) is a compelling story. We are deeply humbled that we could onboard and connect so many investors, especially focused on emerging deeptech, who backed us through angel funds and syndicates; many of them just over phone calls and messages.
It is also an indication of how angel investing in India is democratizing at a rapid pace. This is just the beginning and we hope to find more like-minded partners on the way.
